My favorite affirmation

Hi Sunshine!

It’s nice to see you 🙂

Today, I want to share my absolute most FAVORITE affirmation in the entire world with you.

As a trained school psychologist/mental health professional, I have always heard about the importance of daily affirmations, journaling, and having a positive self-care routine. But, while it was embedded into my brain that this was something good, I found myself hitting a wall whenever I personally tried to do it.

And believe me, I tried it. Over and over again.

Then, one day, my best friend (@Leecewrites on IG) had suggested we start sending affirmation videos to one another. So each day, we would send each-other videos of ourselves saying things like, “I am loved,” “I am good at my job,” “I am a good friend,” etc. While this was extremely helpful and beneficial in helping my overall spirits, as well as my confidence that I have literally the best friend ever, it still felt like I wasn’t doing it completely right.

Then… about a year later, when I was really going through it… I ended up on manifestation / law of attraction / journaling / self-care Tik Tok. Hearing about affirmations outside of the, “you should do this because it’s good,” context completely changed the mindset I had about the power of my daily thoughts and words. I think it was the creator Haley Hoffman Smith (who is also one of my favorites- love her energy) who gave me the idea that while you can use basic affirmations, they need to be meaningful, and need to have intention behind them. Essentially, the bigger and the deeper, the better.

So basically, saying, “I’m good at my job,” is a good start. But you can add so much more than that. I know from experience, because this is how I came to create my favorite affirmation.

I would often say, “I’m good at my job” because I had SERIOUS imposter syndrome at my last work place. It was a constant belief that everyone around me believed I was incompetent and a useless resource. So, when I really started my consistent journaling routine, one of my daily affirmations written was this:

I am worthy and deserving of taking a seat at every table I am afforded the opportunity to sit at.

And it changed. my. world.

I wrote it down every. single. day. And I actually started to believe it. I started to believe that I was smart enough to sit and provide input in the meetings I used to fear opening my mouth in. I started to believe that people enjoyed being around me. I started to believe that I was writing decent reports. Heck, I even started believing that I was confident….something that I have historically struggled with.

Now, fast forward almost a year later, I have a new job and I feel like I am exactly where I am supposed to be.

What kind of things are you having imposter syndrome with? I dare you to start adding this affirmation to your self-care routine- whether it be saying them daily in the mirror or as you drive, writing in your journal, sending to a friend.

Regardless of how you chose to use it, I hope you you will start to believe it. Just like I did.
